Child Champions Network

The Child Champion Network is a coalition of agencies, organizations, and professionals who provide resources, services, and support to children and families coping with serious illness, loss, and crisis on Long Island and the New York Metro Area.

Our History

As the Director of the American Cancer Society’s Camp Adventure for over ten years, I was always surprised and dismayed that there was not more coordination and collaboration between local organizations and agencies providing services to children and families coping with cancer.   I convened this group for the first time in 2002 as a means to foster collaboration and resource sharing.  In my current role as a Counselor and Education Consultant, I’ve been delighted to continue to plan and facilitate these quarterly meetings.  Child Champions Network aims to foster ongoing communication, cooperation, and collaboration among organizations and individuals serving families.  It is also an excellent opportunity for professional support, brainstorming, and cross-referrals.

For agencies that have attended these meetings in the past, we continue to gather and share information on your organization and the services that are available to families coping with illness, crisis, or loss.   If you have never attended a meeting, know that we welcome new members to join this group at any time.  In addition, I have set up a group listserve to stay connected with each other inbetween meetings.  You are welcome to post messages and flyers regarding upcoming events, trainings, and volunteer opportunities by sending them to me directly at: Marianne.esolen@yahoo.com.  You may also be eligible to be added to this group list if you are a professional who works with children or families coping with illness, crisis, or loss.

Please feel free to contact me by email at Marianne.esolen@yahoo.com or by phone at 631-219-3400 if you have additional questions or agenda items you’d like to suggest for upcoming meetings.  Also feel free to share this information with other colleagues involved in working with children and families coping with illness, crisis, or loss.   I look forward to continuing to find ways to further support each other and the important work we do.  THANK YOU for making a difference in the lives of children!
